LincolnJust two hours from Boston by car, the Bluegreen Resorts vacation property in Lincoln, New Hampshire, offers a full palette of seasonal color and fun all year through. Stay at the South Mountain Resort in the midst of the state’s stunning White Mountains, and experience the nature trails, scenic byways and highways, and the distinctive covered bridges (once known as “courting bridges”) that create one of the area’s signature cultural silhouettes. Follow the winding Lost River as it traces its way through granite walls of cavern, gorge, and falls and into the distant geologic past of the region.

Winter activities get top billing in the White Mountains. Take advantage of the many opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, or just visiting historic logging trails. Some families may prefer a hike, a kayak trip, or a game of golf. Whatever your favorite outdoor pastime may be, chances are you’ll find it.

The Kancamagus Highway, affectionately called “the Kanc,” winds through more than 30 miles of some of the country’s best autumn foliage. Designated an official scenic byway, the Kanc also takes you through the White Mountain National Forest, which offers stunning vistas of the Swift River, Rocky Gorge, and a series of waterfalls that can drop from 45 feet. Near Lincoln, the highway reaches 3,000 feet in elevation.

Franconia Notch State Park, deep in the forest, centers on the Franconia Notch mountain pass, which extends from Echo Lake all the way down to Flume Gorge. The area is famed for its Old Man of the Mountain, a face-like stone formation that has figured in classic works of American literature. While traveling through the park, don’t miss the massive heights of Flume Gorge’s granite walls, all covered over in moss, that rear up near the base of Mount Liberty.

The area around Bluegreen Resorts’ Lincoln property also offers access to the historic Clark’s Trading Post. Or ascend into the mountains via the tramway that takes you to the summit of Cannon Mountain in 10 minutes. Other family activities include the Loon Mountain gondola ride or a play-date at Whale’s Tale Water Park.
